Ewa Henry-Dawson

Ewa came to Canada in 1989 from her native Poland and has built a career centred on graphic design, art, writing and community service. With an undergrad degree in Visual Arts and postgraduate education in design and multimedia she brings tenacity, joy, and creativity into everything she does.
Ewa considers herself a professional volunteer. Her boundless energy is always focused on supporting people and boots-on-the-ground work in the community. With Tourette Canada she serves on the Marketing and Communications Committee, co-facilitates a support group for mothers of children with Tourette Syndrome, and creates educational and promotional materials for the organization.
Still deeply connected to her home country, Ewa launched and developed what grew into a nationwide fundraiser in Poland supporting children with Niemann-Pick disease and she has chaired the Canadian chapter of Poland’s largest charitable fundraiser, WOSP (benefiting paediatric medicine in Poland), for five years.
A firm believer in community work and social justice, Ewa both cooks for, and volunteers with a weekly community dinner in South Etobicoke and does Sunday morning street outreach connecting with and supporting people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in downtown Toronto. She believes passionately in every person’s right to thrive with dignity and a roof over their head.
Her work as an Art Facilitator with seniors brings her enormous joy, especially when she sees how art can bring people out of isolation and creates human connections. Ewa is both a visual artist and a poet exploring women’s untold stories, and she is a Lucy Maud Montgomery scholar.
Ewa and her husband, Ted, share their time, work, and home with countless friends, who in turn bring much back into their lives.
