Fred Dorre
IT, Strategy and Planning Lead
Fred spent 25 years working in cybersecurity, helping organizations protect what matters most: people’s savings, health records, and private lives. He worked with banks, hospitals, insurance companies, and major sporting events, and found the most meaningful part of the work was never the technical fix itself. It was helping someone understand a problem they were worried about, and seeing them feel at ease once it was resolved.
Throughout that career, Fred stayed involved in his community. For several years, he helped organize a security conference in Toronto and volunteered at others. He regularly spent weekends tracing missing persons online as part of a larger volunteer effort that helped reunite families; quiet, patient work that reflects a commitment to following through, even when progress is slow. Fred also mentored people newer to the field and spoke occasionally at a local college, helping pass on knowledge to the next generation of cyber professionals.
Now that he has retired from the field, Fred brings that same instinct, to show up and do what needs doing, to his work as
IT, Strategy and Planning Lead at On-the-Ground Toronto. He brings years of experience in governance and risk, particularly around protecting sensitive information, which has real application to the work of the organization: safeguarding donor data, supporting volunteer safety, and providing compliance advice. Above all, Fred brings time, patience, and a willingness to do the practical work that keeps an organization moving forward.
